Approved on December 12th by the Colorado Supreme Court these are the new boundaries of Senate District 31. You can zoom in on the map to see the boundaries more closely.
The city limits of Denver are the eastern boundary and Colfax Avenue is the furthest northern boundary. Most of the district is east of Colorado Blvd., with the exception of the Capitol Hill, Cheesman Park, Congress Park and Cherry Creek neighborhoods. The City of Glendale is in the district, as is Holly Hills and unincorporated Arapahoe County enclaves within Denver. The population of SD 31 was just shy of 144,000 people on Census Day in 2010. All of SD 31 lies within the 1st Congressional District.
Senate District 31 overlaps five different State House Districts. Those districts and their current representatives are as follows:
HD 2 – Rep. Mark Ferrandino
HD 5 – Rep. Crisanta Duran
HD 6 – Rep. Lois Court
HD 8 – Rep. Beth McCann
HD 9 – Rep. Joe Miklosi
The first four Representatives will all be running for reelection in their districts, but Rep. Miklosi is a candidate for US Congress from the 6th Congressional District. Because of this, HD 9 will be an open seat in 2012.
